6. Mixed reactions to new sanctions on Iran

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Middle East, a unit of the country's biggest bank by market value, profit and deposit, registered a sharp increase in its total assets and profits in 2011 despite the political turbulence in the Middle East and North Africa. The total assets of the ICBC ME tripled from nearly US$ 1.28 billion at the end of 2010 to reach US$ 3.86 billion at the end of November 2011.

About 350 Chinese medical companies are participating in the ongoing Arab Health Congress in Dubai, aiming to flood the Middle East with their products, as the region is developing fast in relation to health care services. The four-day event, the largest of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, hosts 3,000 firms from 70 countries, includes representatives from over 30 country pavilions in the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Chinese pavilion is the largest country cluster at the congress.

Chinese State Councillor Liu Yandong met with a delegation headed by Prince Naouaf Faisal Fahd Abdul Aziz, President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee. Liu thanked Saudi Arabia's support for China's bidding and preparing for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. He said that China is willing to further deepen the exchange in sports with Saudi Arabia.
