It was announced that the run-off presidential elections would be held between Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi and former air force chief and Hosni Mubarak's last prime Minister Ahmed Shafik. In the first round of elections, Morsi secured 24.3 per cent of the vote, followed by Shafik with 23.3 per cent. Among others Hamdeen Sabahy secured 20.4 per cent, Abdel Moneim Abol Fotouh secured 17.2 per cent and former Arab League secretary general Amr Musa secured 10.9 per cent of the votes.
