is an Indo-Judaic studies scholar employed as Assistant Professor of History at Presidency University, Kolkata, India, where he teaches several self-designed courses, including an undergraduate course in Jewish history and a Holocaust focused postgraduate course. He is the author of a number of publications, which include Jews, Judaizing Movements and the Traditions of Israelite Descent in South Asia (New Delhi, 2016). He has published extensively advocating the introduction of Jewish studies in India. He is also the first person to make a significant contribution to Jewish Studies in Urdu, the lingua franca of almost all South Asian Muslims, though he writes primarily in English. Several articles of his have been translated into French, German, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Tel Aviv University, Woolf Institute, Cambridge, UK and the University of Sydney and has spoken at scholarly forums in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. During his two-year tenure (2008-2010) as a Fellow of the Centre for Communication & Development Studies, Pune under its youth outreach programme, Open Space, he organised fifty-six events in his hometown Lucknow with the aim of bringing about a positive change in Muslim attitudes towards Jews. One of the events was a Holocaust Films Retrospective, the first ever in South Asia. He also has to his credit a couple of international multidisciplinary conferences on the Holocaust, one at the O P Jindal Global University, Sonipat in 2016, which he co-organised, and the other at Presidency University, Kolkata in 2017, which he organised solely. He sits on the editorial boards of the peer-reviewed journal The Social Ion and on the international advisory board of the Asian Jewish Life, and is referee to several peer-reviewed journals. He is currently writing with a colleague a guidebook to introducing Holocaust Studies in India, and co-editing with her a couple of volumes on Holocaust Studies.
