On 12 September 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) President appointed a three-member commission to go into popular unrest in Syria since mid-March 2011. The commission comprised of Paulo Pinheiro (Chairperson) and Yakin Ertürk and Karen Koning AbuZayd (members). On 23 November 2011, UNHCR made public Report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic. Though the Syrian government refused to cooperate, the report contains a number of eyewitnesses and testimonies. Give its importance, the full report is reproduced here as MEI Factsheet.
